About Us

The Sadaqah Jariyah Rewards (SJR) Foundation is a registered charity that strives to support disadvantaged communities around the world. ‘Sadaqah Jariyah’ (صدقة الجارية) means ‘continuous, flowing and ongoing charity’: the projects we establish provide long-term support to those in need on a consistent and collaborative basis. Offering continuous reward, this form of charitable giving reaps benefits in both this lifetime and the next Insha’ Allah.

Our mission is to make the act of Sadaqah Jariyah as simple and effective as possible. We believe that there is strength in numbers and that individual donors can have a significant impact when giving via our collective system. In this way, we earn good deeds as a family unit, and would like to encourage as many people as possible to get involved and partake in this great act. The more members we have supporting and adding value to our noble cause, the more we are able to contribute and have an impact.

How We Started

Our story began in 2018, when the founding members of our team spent Ramadan in Cairo, having raised Zakat money from family and friends. Arriving in Al Warq, they encountered extreme poverty and were overwhelmed by the insignificance of their funds. The SJR Foundation was born upon their return to London, beginning with a handful of like-minded members and now grown to a small group of volunteers.

From such small beginnings, the positive impact brought about by SJR has meant that our goal is to grow the Foundation with new members and support a greater number of projects.

All administration costs are covered by our co-founders and the team does not receive renumeration, operating a strict 100% donation policy, 100% of the time.

Our Projects

Every month, our members are presented with three SJR-related causes and can vote for the cause that they would most like to support. The cause with the majority vote receives all funds for that monthly period.

Some of our previous projects include:

  • Building water hand pumps in Bangladesh
  • Zakat distribution
  • Providing food packs for the poor and needy
  • A free funeral service at Baitul Aziz Masjid
  • Qurbani
  • Donating towards a private ambulance
  • Supporting the running costs of places of worship
  • Supporting the education of children with autism and other disabilities
  • Eden Care – covering burial costs for those that cannot afford it
  • Date Palm Primary School – an independent Islamic primary school in London

We can also aid members in distributing Zakat. Zakat funds will be held separately prior to their being sent to designated individuals/countries.

DONATE

We rely on the support of our members – and what’s more, we want to hear what you think.

With the SJR Foundation, all members have a say in how and where their money is being spent. Sadaqah Jariyah causes are nominated and voted for by members each month, and 100% of the monthly collection is donated to the cause with the strongest support. You speak, you choose, we listen.

All it takes is a regular and consistent donation of £10 per month. Strength in numbers = small contribution, huge impact.

FAQs

How does SJR work?

All members contribute a monthly donation of £10. This pot is then distributed in its entirety to the elected cause that has won the most support from members.

What makes SJR different?

We provide a simple, effortless and effective approach to bringing about and earning continuous reward. Simply donate each month by £10 standing order and get involved by voting. You have a say in how the money is spent.

Is the entire collected amount donated each and every month?

Yes. Our objective is to donate all monies received for that given month. However, there may be occasions where a small amount is carried over to the following month to be put towards the following elected cause.

What does ‘Sadaqah Jariyah’ mean?

‘Sadaqah Jariyah’ means a continuous, flowing and ongoing charity. It is one of the most rewarding acts we can do in our lives, as the benefits of giving this type of charity can be reaped both in this lifetime and long after we have passed.

What is the difference between normal ‘Sadaqah’ and ‘Sadaqah Jariyah’?

To put it simply, they both count as ‘Sadaqah’ (voluntary charity). However, ‘Sadaqah’ on its own will benefit the recipient on a single occasion and will count as one good deed for the giver. ‘Sadaqah Jariyah’ will benefit the recipients more than once and that good deed will continue rewarding you even after your death.

For example, giving someone something to eat is a Sadaqah and will benefit that person in that moment. Building a well where people can draw water regularly is a Sadaqah Jariyah and will benefit people for generations to come. In turn, it will also continue benefiting you in this life and the next Insha’ Allah.

What are the main Sadaqah Jariyah causes?

There are numerous types of Sadaqah Jariyah causes but in the following hadith seven are mentioned by name:

On the authority of Abu Hurairah (ra) who said, ‘the Prophet (saw) said, “Indeed, the rewards of his actions and good deeds that will reach a believer after his death are: [1] knowledge which he taught and spread; [2] a righteous child whom he leaves behind; [3] a copy of the Qur’an that he leaves as a legacy; [4] or a masjid that he built; [5] or a house that he built for wayfarers; [6] a canal that he dug; [7] or charity that he gave from his wealth in his good health and life. [These deeds] will reach him after his death”’. (Ibn Majah)

Other than good deeds, what else can a member expect to receive?

When we deliver our Sadaqah Jariyah projects, the recipients make du’a in abundance on behalf of the donors. So not only is the donor gaining reward for the project, but they are also benefiting from the du’as made for them by strangers they have never even seen or met, Subhan Allah!

Can I donate on behalf of someone else?

Yes, you can.

How many causes are there to choose from each month?

Each month, three Sadaqah Jariyah causes are forwarded to our members for voting. The cause with the highest vote will be awarded the entire donations received for that month.

How is a cause selected?

Suggestions are forwarded by our members for shortlisting. Only three are selected for the voting process.

Can I suggest a cause to support?

Of course. Please do this by filling in the ‘suggesting a cause’ form on the website. All worthwhile causes are considered. Please ensure you give as much information as possible regarding the proposed cause.

How soon is payment forwarded to the cause?

Usually as soon as the total monthly donations received has been calculated and the voting process concluded. The maximum period would be within one month.

How much of the donations received are forwarded to the cause?

100% of all donations received are given to the cause elected for that relevant month.

How do I become a member of the SJR Foundation?

Simply set up a standing order of £10 per month. Once done, please notify our admin team so that you are set up on our system. Notifications can be done via the ‘contact us’ form on our website or simply by sending an email to: info@sjr.foundation

How much does each member contribute per month?

We ask for a small regular donation of £10 per month – a small amount to make a huge collective impact.

When will we know how much has been collected?

By the 1st of each month, the SJR admin team will calculate and shortly announce the total amount collected for the month just ended. For example, on the 1st of February total donations for the entire month of January (1st January – 31st January) will be announced.

How are admin costs covered?

Alhamdulillah, the admin and running costs have been and will continue to be met by the co-founders and sponsors of the SJR Foundation. If you would like to get involved in assisting with our administrative and running costs, please do get in touch. Remember that 100% of all donations received are spent on our causes – nothing whatsoever is deducted.

Who runs the SJR Foundation?

Alhamdulillah, the SJR Foundation is run and managed by a handful of its members. They do not receive any remuneration and work strictly on a ‘Fisabillah’ basis, solely and collectively seeking their reward from Allah SWT.

What payment methods do you accept?

The most cost-effective way of donating is by setting up a regular monthly standing order or direct bank transfer. This ensures that 100% of your payment is received in donation, since most other forms of payment i.e. PayPal, credit card, etc. incur bank charges which minimise your donation. We can only work with net payments received.
